Songs to Life and Landscape

In Songs to Life and Landscape, melodies and rhythms transport us to distant landscapes, moments and feelings of life. Oftentimes, the music takes us to the place where we most want to be, it can be a mother's lap, a warm and festive place or even there where eternal peace dwells.

Canto Diáspora is a vibrant women's choir in Berlin under the direction of Colombian singer Carolina Riaño which was founded in 2022. The group is composed of 40 women, predominantly Latin American migrants, who come together to create a union of voices that resonates with the richness of Latin America's oral tradition. Each week, their voices intertwine in a collective song that not only celebrates the music, but also the diversity of their origins and experiences. In Canto Diáspora, collective singing becomes an act of empowerment.

The music of Canto Diáspora is an echo of resilience and feminine strength, a song that celebrates joy and togetherness. Beyond the music, Canto Diáspora is a refuge where women can share their identity, experiences and emotions. In an environment that fosters sisterhood and understanding, each member has the opportunity to open up and express the challenges and joys that arise from life in Berlin, far from their roots. This space of trust and mutual support not only enriches their musical experience, but also creates deep bonds between the participants, turning their choir into a true community. The magic of this group lies in its ability to transform music into a vehicle for expression and connection, where every encounter is synonymous with well-being.

Canto Díaspora has performed concerts on various stages such as Gorki Theater for the Amnesty International Deutschland Awards, SAVVY Contemporary, Grüner Salon Volksbühne, Festival of the Sun Berlin, Femistisches Zentrum für Migrant*innen e.V., Nodo Germany, among others. Through their performances, the group seeks to inspire other women to find their voice and share their story.
