As a SAVVY friend you support the work and the independent programming of SAVVY Contemporary – a cultural non-profit organization driving urgent artistic, political, aesthetic and social discourses in the neighbourhood of Berlin-Wedding. Since 2009, SAVVY Contemporary has, continuously and with insufficient financial support, established a self-determined space that is constantly becoming and always endangered due to structural and financial restraints. In addition to developing a strong community built on mutual support, we have realized a kaleidoscope of exhibitions, long-term projects, performances, archives, film screenings, lectures, concerts, readings, talks, dances and more – on matters and questions urgent to us and you.

Founded in 2009 by Dr. Bonaventure Soh Bejeng Ndikung, SAVVY Contemporary: The laboratory of form-ideas is an art space, discursive platform, eating and drinking spot, njangi house, space for conviviality. SAVVY Contemporary situates itself at the threshold of notions and constructs of the West and non-West, primarily to understand and negotiate between them and obviously to deconstruct the ideologies and connotations eminent to such structures. For this, it seems appropriate to invoke, convoke or deploy the cosmogenic powers of artists and artistic practice to guide us. On this journey, SAVVY Contemporary engages in the poetic power of artistic practice to un-name and re-name, de-institute and re-institute selves, silence imposed voices and un-silence suppressed voices in an effort to resolve the crisis of entrapment.
In the past SAVVY Contemporary has realized a kaleidoscope art exhibitions, performances, film screenings, lectures, concerts, readings, talks, dances. SAVVY Contemporary has established a participatory archive on German colonial history, a performance arts documentation center, an open library, a residency program for curators, writers and artists, as well as educational projects with schools. SAVVY Contemporary engages in its neighborhood's history and socio-political status quo, first in Neukölln and since 2016 in Wedding, which are entangled with the reflections and discourses of the project. SAVVY Contemporary reaches out not only to the art affine but also to the non-art affine.
