Sound Stories Silent Site

Tune in for the airing of the outcomes of Sound Stories Silent Site, a collaborative sound piece emerging from a workshop led by artist, musician, and educator Anton Kats with us for our RIPPLING OTHERWISE programme: a series of workshops, radio and sound commissions. Sound Stories Silent Site was a performative laboratory for improvised music and storytelling. The laboratory invited the audience to shape an improvised musical ensemble, setting aside conventional understandings of sound, composition, performance, and narrative. The project asked, how do collective ethics of a place sound, especially when inspired by difference and contradiction? The lab sought to disrupt colonial hierarchies and formalized identities through the sonic. With a series of collaborative modules, the improvised ensemble engaged with sound engines, synthesizers, and storytelling, weaving narratives of otherworld-making.
