An Invitation to Action – A Basis for Hope

Tune into our SAVVYZΛΛR radio waves for a live transmission from Cyprus: Cultural workers from nine countries – Honduras, Greece, China, Brazil, Canada, Indonesia, Italy, Nigeria, Cameroon – will be exploring frequencies of resistance and sonic solidarity.

This broadcast emerges from a year-long study of the Medu Art Ensemble and liberation radio practices. Investigating how transmission becomes transformation. How voices cross borders without permission. How attention itself might be solidarity. Voices plural, overlapping, porous. Experimental sound compositions, field recordings, and live sonic interventions weave with readings that move between languages. Audio that refuses containment. Drawing from Fanon’s analysis of radio in the Algerian resistance to contemporary practices of cultural transmission. Voices loop, overlap, echo – deliberately, gently, sometimes urgently. Wearing away at borders that would contain them. Radio remembering its original promise – not information but sustenance. The nourishment needed for staying together across difference and distance.

Radio as gathering place. Radio as weapon. Radio as feast.
You are invited to tune in. To be with us. If you’re wondering what becomes possible when we listen together.

Presented by students from the 2024-2025 COOP study group at the Dutch Art Institute. Guided by Mokia Dinnyuy Manjoh and Leo Asemota, joined by Manuela Garcia Aldana.
