PUBLISHING LABO*R / Pressing Against Apartheid, invites you to scan, print, copy, edit and publish collectively.
On the third Publishing Labo*r Saturday, Abbas A Malakar will facilitate a workshop in zine-making with the help of linocut printmaking. Self-publishing is the founding stone upon which anti-authoritarianism has been built worldwide. It has been a bullhorn for the queer communities for over seventy years. As we work towards a more equitable and just society, zine-making may provide paths otherwise unavailable in terms of self-expression and mass dissemination of artistic products. In our current exhibition we are making space for the exploration of these ideas and practices both socially and politically through its PUBLISHING LABO*R. We hope you will join us in making and sharing zines with linocut printmaking.
Abbas A Malakar is an artist and curator with keen interest in zine making, its history and current practices. Over the last nine years he has been involved with multiple institutions and artistic practices focusing on printmaking. He has a degree in Art History from Kala Bhavana, Visva-Bharati in India and is currently pursuing an MA in Curatorial Practice at the School of Visual Arts in New York.
This workshop is part of Wedding Affairs, our neighbourhood gatherings within the 15-months-long programme TRANSITIONS, funded by Die Beauftragte der Bundesregierung für Kultur und Medien.
