Diaspora Baby

Feel warmly invited to join us all for the launch celebration of Ana Lucão's Diaspora Baby – a multilingual poetry collection about Afrodiasporic experience in Germany. It explores the feeling of belonging for those far away from their ancestral home and offers poetic comfort by centring poetry about community, love, siblinghood and nature. It is an attempt to find a language for something that can possibly only be felt. Diaspora Baby is Ana Lucão's first independent publication.

Iman Gele will guide us through an evening filled with poetry, featuring readings from Ana Lucão's book and contributions from Maame Marion, Melanelle Beryl Hémêfa, Maame K, Liliana Filipa, and Maëlle Fiand. To end the evening, DJ Nzambisa will take us on a afrodiasporical musical journey. During the event, Sabores a Mwangolé will offer Angolan food and you can buy a print by Sarah Domitille.

Ana Lucão is an afrodiasporic poetess, dancer and padagogue. She studied speech pedagogy and the art of storytelling in social work and is very passionate about fusing social work and her art. Ana Lucão believes that having an artistic outlet is essential for marginalized bodies, so she centers her art around intersectionality and being a child of the diaspora with a multilingual identity concept. She has performed on various stages including Volksbühne or Ballhaus Naunystraße and has published one of her texts in Sisters and Souls, edited by Natasha A. Kelly and Togetherness by Poetrymeets.
