The roof radio

We are excited to welcome Nischal Khadka back to the airwaves of SAVVYZAAR, with the first hour hosting a mix initially aired with The Roof Radio and entitiled "Listening to the Voices from the Roof of the World". The second hour will echo a previous airing, "The Transhimalayan Network", opening our ears to emerging artists from Bhutan, Nepal, Tibet: all high Himalayan regions with a deeply rooted Buddhist tradition. The Roof Radio mix traverses sound art and music from the Himalayan region and beyond, moving from traditional and contemporary cultivations of sounds and rhythms to the intermingling of voices, chants, and field recordings across decidedly liminal spaces.

Nischal Khadka  is a sound artist, independent curator, cultural organizer and a DJ from Nepal. He is also the founder of the nonprofit organization Transhimalaya Foundation for Transdisciplinary Creativity (TFTC) established in 2022 with the aim of making new art accessible to the public in Nepal. Nischal has previously worked with Kathmandu Triennale 2077 as a head of multimedia and technology for the festival production. He has also contributed four-part radio episodes called "The Transhimalayan Network" for SAVVY Contemporary in Berlin. Recently Nischal is engaged in curating the musical programme "A Song of Woes: We Offer Steeps", commisonned by Sounds Now in collaboration with SPOR Festival Aarhus and Ultima Contemporary Music Festival, Oslo. Additionally, Nischal is pursuing MA in Spatial Strategies in Weißensee Kunsthochschule Berlin under the guidance of Bonaventure Soh Bejeng Ndikung and Pauline Doutreluinge.

The Roof Radio is a Tibet underground radio run by artists Karmasound and Kalnor broadcasting music sounds artists from all over the world via Baihui Radio platform. This mix was broadcasted on 06/06/2023 upon the invitation from Karmasound and Kalnor.
