In this workshop, participants will find empowerment through the practice of DJing and manipulating digital turntables. They will be guided in the discovery of the machines as well as the art of electronic music – especially house and techno, two genres created in the black and queer neighbourhoods of Chicago and Detroit in the early 80s. This workshop is suitable for complete beginners as well as more advanced.
There is space for five participants per session.
ABS8LUTE is a French DJ and music activist known for her hypnotic and percussive techno style. She draws from her Caribbean heritage the ability to create a unique multi-layered primitive atmosphere with irresistible groove that won’t give the dancers any rest. Her influence extends beyond the clubs as she is a strong advocate for the representation of women and minorities in electronic music. She founded the Vénus Club, a feminist collective promoting FLINTA DJs and gives DJ workshops to empower marginalized communities. She is also one of the Artistic Directors of forward-thinking Parisian collective Kluster.
FUNDING This workshop is part of Wedding Affairs, our neighbourhood gatherings within the 15-months-long programme TRANSITIONS, funded by Die Beauftragte der Bundesregierung für Kultur und Medien.
