Dabke is a folklore dance home to Lebanon, Syria, Palestine, Jordan and Iraq, among others. Using stomping and repetitions, the circle/line formation creates space for community to practice a collective flow.This workshop will be focused on dabke styles practiced in Baalbeck, Lebanon. We will get together and go over basic steps of Dabke and practice different styles until we create space for a dabke circle to come together.

Nancy Naser Al Deen is Baalbeck-born multidisciplinary performance artist & scenographer based in Berlin. Nancy’s collaboration-based practice is guided by choreographies of bodies in relation to space. Naser Al Deen uses tools of architecture, scenography, & performance, to map, archive, and investigate politics of marginalized bodies in urban space. Transnational solidarities is their guiding compass. Nancy is a Dabke Dancer trained by Hayakel Baalbeck.
