Artist’s and curator’s residency Berlin-Lagos

In August 2016, Artist’s and curator’s residency Berlin-Lagos – the residency programme for young artists and curators takes place for the second time in Berlin. The programme is a collaboration between Goethe-Institut Nigeria, Zentrum für Kunst und Urbanistik (ZK/U), SAVVY Contemporary and Amt für Weiterbildung und Kultur/Fachbereich Kunst und Kultur.

From August to October, Tito Aderemi-Ibitola, a Lagos-based multimedia artist working primarily in performance and video, will live and work in the city of Berlin. Her work focuses on the intersections of race, gender, and ethnicity. She has studied at the Theatre Department of Allegheny College in Pennsylvania and was also trained at the Royal Shakespeare Company in UK. Her works have been included in solo and group exhibitions as well as in festivals, among others Art 21–Platform Exhibition (2016), Lagos Theatre Festival (2016), Videonale CCA (2016), New Contemporaries-Performance Art (2016), and White Space–Black Tears–Solo Exhibition (2015). Her Live Performance WhiteSpace (2015) was invited to Goethe-Institut Lagos-Photo Party (2015), Trans-Atlantic Visual Exchange (2015), Stranger Lagos (2015) and VAN Lagos (2015). The residency in Berlin is aimed at offering the artist the opportunity to explore further her artistic and cultural forms of expression within her examination of urban and social issues especially concerning questions of gender and the role of POC in Berlin. Furthermore, she is invited to connect and exchange with actors and practitioners within the independent scene and non-profit art spaces in Berlin. Central are here the communal Galerie Wedding and SAVVY Contemporary.

Tito Aderemi-Ibitola is hosted by ZK/U in an studio to work and live in and gets the opportunity to present her work within the “OPENHAUS”-Events.
