We warmly welcome back Dystopia Biennial on the SAVVYZΛΛR radiowaves: The 2026 edition is the fifth of the Sound Art Festival organized by Errant Sound since 2018. Global Dystopia, directed by Mario Asef and curated by Janine Eisenächer and Laura Mello, examines the aesthetic, political, and epistemological dimensions of listening in a world shaped by multiple, interconnected crises. The featured works investigate sound as a medium of knowledge, memory, and imagination, asking how attentive ears can render complex realities perceptible. Moving beyond the representation of crisis, the projects foreground sonic practices that challenge dominant narratives, make hidden relations audible, and propose alternative ways of relating to the world.
In this session, Laura Mello presents excerpts of the opening performances on 26.09.2026 at HAUNT/frontviews by Tintin Patrone, Staffan Westerlund, and Lisa W Carlson. Also in the show, Txulunh Gakran and João Voia speak about their installation GÓ TE VẼ KÉKE MŨ (The Earth Speaks) – Memories of Life and Resistance of the People of the Sun. Subsequently, we listen to Jasmina Al-Qaisi's last work on melisma and how to mourn the future loss of the Dead Sea.
The work of Brazilian-German sound artist and composer Laura Mello is the result of a practice of listening to the interstices, where sound serves as a starting point to forge unheard connections. She explores the auditory dimensions of spoken language to question colonial perspectives and established epistemologies. Laura's projects emerge in various formats and develop from interdisciplinary and often site-specific investigations.
