What you want to hear, you hear not. For, what finds its way out from the underground and the out there is spoken in rhythms and tones, in a language that solicits a different hearing.
In the wake of colonial legacies from the "northern" hemisphere, our sonic experiences have been profoundly shaped by imposed hierarchies, belief systems, and ways of relating to each other and our worlds. Rippling otherwise: On remixing, echoing & challenging sonic legacies seeks to unpack and challenge these influences while inviting exploration of ancient-future sonic technologies. By questioning and remixing present sonic practices rooted in colonial legacies, we aim to reclaim agency and identity in our sonic landscapes.
SAVVYZΛΛR leverages the tool of radio as both a space for experimentation, healing and archiving, fostering dialogue across different geographies and times.
Through the different chapters – Cures, Labo*r, Society, Historical Children, and Wedding Affairs – of our yearlong programme on TRANSITIONS, live recordings in sonic workshops will search for exploration and experimentation within SAVVY´s community and neighborhood. Complementing these live sessions, additional contributions distributed over nine months will delve deeper into the sonic and listening as anti-colonial practices. These contributions will include four sonic commissions aired on SAVVYZΛΛR, offering diverse perspectives and engaging in critical listening and sounding.
Our goal is to not only interrogate the colonial legacies embedded in our sonic experiences but also to actively reimagine and reshape these practices. By amplifying marginalized voices and embracing diverse sonic traditions, we wish to foster a more pluriversal and equitable sonic landscape.
Physically in the SAVVY space, we built a SOUNDING LABO*R as a place for listening. It is also an invitation to share from the SAVVY house with other geographies, landscapes and communities. Using radio as a medium and as a space for sonic experimentation and archiving hand in hand with our radio pillarSAVVYZΛΛR.
The radio booth was designed by Santiago Doljanin and Ola Zielińska, and implemented by Santiago Doljanin.
