Cubistics

Miya Masaoka's exhibition REFUGE IN THE VEGETAL WORLD will be accompanied by performative and sonic activations throughout and after the MaerzMusik festival. On two ocassions, musicians will activate the work Cubistics, a three-dimensional score. It is presented as a floating wooden cube with a projected animation on the wall. Initially conceived as a performance element, the cube functions as a surface for sound mapping during the performance. As sound interacts with the cube, it is being translated into music, drawing the audience into the scoring process in real-time.

The score will be interpreted by Zeynep Ayşe Hatipoğlu, James Banner and Biliana Voutchkova.

Zeynep Ayşe Hatipoğlu is a cellist, improviser, and electroacoustic music composer and performer based in Berlin. Her artistic practice derives from free improvisation, the concept of play, contemporary and experimental sound works, as well as Turkish makam music.

James Banneris an improvising musician and composer based in Berlin. He creates electronic and acoustic music and collaborates with composers, improvisers and writers around the world. James also plays in chamber music ensembles and is part of Berlin's jazz, improvisation and Echtzeitmusik scenes.

Biliana Voutchkovais a dynamic, thoroughly engaged interdisciplinary artist, violinist, composer-performer, improvisor and curator. Through the prism of listening, her early training in classical music and the years of development as contemporary artist-performer, she explores states of spontaneity and intuitive resonance embodied in her multifaceted activities.
